Karen Mertes gives back through Fulfill Your Destiny, a Tampa Non-Profit

GULFPORT — 

Friendships can be forged over common interests, personalities and backgrounds.

But, no one expects to find a friend after a catastrophe strikes.

Air Force Lt. Col. (Ret.) Karen Mertes left the military after suffering a traumatic brain injury following a serious car accident.

Now healthy, she runs a non-profit organization called Fulfill Your Destiny
