In the early 1970’s many high school boys dreamed of being football stars or astronauts. Not so for Steve. He dreamed of becoming a writer, specifically, an investigative journalist.
Life has a way of changing our course and this was the case for Steve. Following high school, he ended up entering the USAF where he completed three years of duty in the Pacific. Today, Steve and his wife enjoy their four grown daughters and the rewards of his successful career learned in the military as a materials specialist.
“But the writing bug never left me,” Steve explains. “I never totally gave up on my dreams to write.” Steve was inspired to launch his second career in his fifties and today is following his passion for writing as a published author of several books.
Steve writes for a special audience inspired by his role as a father. “I see kids surrounded with so many negative messages even in the books written for them. I am compelled to write children’s books that encourage them to reach for the stars.”
Steve’s books address topics that include: anti-bullying, the importance of daydreaming and pursuing your dreams despite overwhelming odds.
“I tell kids I’m an example of someone who had to wait decades to realize my dream of being a writer. But I let them know it was totally worth the wait and the sacrifices.”
As a recent winner of a Fulfill Your Destiny Business Builder Grant, Steve plans to use his grant to obtain further education to advance his writing career.
“I wouldn’t have been able to afford this training without the grant from “Fulfill Your Destiny,” said Steve. “I can share from the heart that the organization’s belief in me and willingness to help me advance has been a life-changing and inspiring experience for me. I’m very grateful.”
Steve notes that Fulfill Your Destiny’s “pay it forward” motto has inspired him to follow suit. He wants to put his books in the hands of underserved kids who need them. Steve invites community members to contact him for discounts applicable to those who wish to donate books to underserved schools. Contact Steve at stevealtierbooks@outlook.com.
